Want to win something from AionBlah.com? Want to make me even poorer? Then I want you to make a demotivational image.
Best image wins an Aion preorder and CE, when it becomes available. Contest is open to anyone, EU or NA (and you can choose which version of the game you want, if you're crazy like that).
Disappoint me! If all the entries suck, no one wins. Congratulations.
Go.
Edit: for the slowpokes, it's gotta be Aion-related.
Edit2: you've got one week to make a demotivational. >:l

Here are the patch notes for version 1.3 (now called 1.5, stay with me now) Though it is to be noted, that this content that was translated from a press preview may not all make it in this patch.
I don't care, anything is better than 1.0

One of the most frequent questions the Aion team has heard from players during the beta events is, "What version is the North America and Europe game launching with?" We're happy to announce today that Aion is planned to release with version 1.5, the third major game update, bringing the content as up to date as possible. The Aion team strives to keep the game content consistent between territories, and releasing with this game version brings us one step closer to this goal.
Stay tuned to the official web site for more details about version 1.5 and the release of Aion!

Anyone going to PAX?
Mark

Penny Arcade Expo is on the first weekend in September, the 4th, 5th, and 6th. Aion is conveniently scheduled to come out of the cupboard on September 22nd for NA-dwellers and the 25th for Europeans (looks like NCsoft took my release window suggestion o heart).
So how many of you guys are going to PAX09? Anyone already have a flight but need a room? I've got one, and I'm looking for people to split the cost with (already got one, Masa).
There's a lot more to PAX than just Aion, if you were wondering. So much more. You really ought to go, if you can't get into E3.
EDIT: PAX is in Seattle, Washington, btw.
EDIT2: There's going to be a "launch party" for Aion during PAX.

Later today I'll update the forums to IPB 3 Final, so don't spaz out. Stay cool. The forums will be back in 15 minutes or so...whenever I do it.
Too bad IPS didn't finish the Subscription Manager in time. Now I can't bill your all for being awesome.
IPS moved the Sub Manager up to #1 on their list of priorities, so a workable version should be released soon.
EDIT: Updated the forums. Press Ctrl+F5 if there's no background.

First 100 emails going out. Also, Google Analytics.

Heads up, I'm planning on sending out 100 emails very soon. If you're reading this thanks to one of these emails, I'd love to hear your feedback in this thread or in a thread on the feedback forum. For everyone else, here's what the email looks/looked like:
It might sound cheesy or be ineffective, and that's what I need to know before I send out more emails. To everyone just arriving, thanks for taking the time to drop by. Stick around for a bit, would 'ya?
Also, I just added Google Analytics to AionBlah.com, so I'd appreciate it if you disabled NoScript for at least that. Then again, I wouldn't run NoScript here at all, due to how many of IPB 3's features rely on fancy scripts.

Subject: Remember Aion? Still a fan of the game?
Hey [USERNAME]! Guess what? A new Aion fansite, AionBlah.com, is now ready for you to explore!

The domain name might sound familiar. It should, as it's been around for quite some time now serving as "the other Aion fansite" for English-reading and typing Aion fanatics. Just recently, however, has it gotten a facelift and come under new management!
"New management?" Why yes, AionBlah.com is now administrated by myself, Mark, previously the administrator of AionSource.com. Unlike AionSource.com, however, AionBlah.com is not looking for approval from NCsoft. AionBlah.com is a much more free-form community, similar to L2Blah in its approach to in-game "politics". We also don't censor criticism of Aion, NCsoft, and other websites and individuals associated with the game.
Stop on by and check out AionBlah.com when you get the chance. If you choose to register, you'll be one of the first thousand members on the site and part of a close-knit community. A community of free-thinkers.

AionBlah.com
P.S. You're only receiving this email because you were once in direct contact with me in some way (most likely email). You should receive no further announcement emails about AionBlah.com unless you register an account there. If you want to be absolutely sure that your email address is removed from this list, please follow the directions below.
Thank you for your time.

What is this letter about? Nothing in particular, it seems. The first paragraph or two were fluff, the rest about Aion are pointless.
(Another) Open Letter "To The Community"
So, where do I mail my response? No return address? Wonder why.

Aion has a release date. It's September 22nd.

Not much more to say. Release on the 22nd of September. Preorder gives you two days early access, so I'll see you guys on September 20th, if you live in America.
Europeans get shafted once again with a later release date, September 25th.
Shitty source website: IGN
I still find it funny that NCsoft won't just post this stuff to their official website.

Hey guys, you probably already noticed this but navigating to http://www.aionblah.com will now bring you to the Portal. We are just about ready to go completely live and I plan on sending out about 100 emails this afternoon enticing people to come visit. If there's anything blindingly wrong or messed up on the forums, now would be the time to remind me again (since I probably missed your comment somewhere else).
In the meantime, FansOfTelara.com just went live. Although it runs on IPB 3 RC2 like AionBlah.com, it's not going to be run like AionBlah.com. Heroes of Telara is a relatively new MMO and I don't want to scare off the developers by fostering the type of no-holds-barred community we have here. Go check it out, please. We need a few more members and much more content over there before I can start gallivanting around the internet spewing thinly veiled advertisements.

Event this weekend. Powerbook rumored. Preorders now "officially" on sale.

A few quick things before I get busy messing with the forums again: Aion preorders officially went on sale worldwide yesterday (or were supposed to, Australia seems to be a little behind the ball). Of course, if you've been watching AionBlah.com since a week or two ago you'd know that North American preorders have been available from OnlineCDKey.com for some time now. In fact, using the coupon code AIONBLAH at OCDKey got you 5% off of the retail price of any Aion item, I think. I'm working with an online-only European retailer right now trying to get a deal struck with them for EU preorders, but they're a bit slow in responding.
Second, you should already know this, but this weekend is another preview event. Don't forget to use AionBlah.com's temporary vent server, courtesy of TrancerX. I promise I'll play this weekend.
Third, all you DB sites beware: NCsoft is going to step on your balls pretty soon, just like it plans on doing for fansite forums (but you should already know about that). Have you ever heard of, or perhaps even used, the Korean Aion Powerbook? NCsoft is planning on translating and implementing it in English as...the Power Wiki (or Powerwiki, or something equally lame), most likely before retail launch. As for forums, it's generally understood that Aion's official forums are a guaranteed feature of their redesigned website, also due sometime before launch.
How do I know that shit? Simple: I can see the future (and having seen it, cannot easily forget it).
See you guys tomorrow!

All of a sudden there's like a million freaking Aion DB's available. Curse made theirs public recently (but it's got a stupid name) and others followed suit. MMODB has one, and it's got 3D models (zomg). Some other guy on our forums is making one too, but I forgot his name again. His avatar had the Milfblade user in it, that's how I recognize the user. Hold on... Okay, yeah, it's Kindred.
Pardon my stupidity, but why are DBs popular, again? Someone messaged me on MSN last night with the news about AionArmory. Plasma, I think. He sounded excited. Why? What good are DBs? What's the use of looking so far ahead at weapons and armor you don't even have to spec your toon to use correctly? It's not like your stats won't match it when you eventually get it, or you couldn't just go to a PvP NPC and check out what's available.
As for mob spawns and drops and quests and shit: seriously, if you don't know how to do a quest or where to find a mob, you're playing the game wrong (or not paying attention). Yeah, a few quests are bugged to condom come, I can understand asking a guildie how he finished one. Sure, I admit, DBs are fun little tools that satisfy the anal-retentive twinkie crowd, but they're not really worth the alt+tab (or second screen), are they? Am I missing something? Educate me.
Nothing personal against the people who made these DBs. I've been in contact with all three of them some way (yes, even the AA guy, who is actually a rather decent fellow). I just don't really see the use of such a tool. Same goes for wikis. They're hella fun to check out when you're bored or utterly confused by a quest, but that shouldn't be often.
Anyhow, good luck, fellow metasites! Make an addon for IPB 3.0 and I'll use it.
